Printing "Sunlit"
From inking the plate to the finished engraving.
Running
the plate through the press.
The crank on the press is turned to run the plate through
the press.
There is an adjustment on either end of the press roller that moves it up or
down to loosen or tighten the press. This was done before the plate was inked.
The press has to have a moderate degree of even pressure on either end of the
roller to press the paper into the lines of the plate evenly to pick up the
ink.
Too much pressure can distort the paper, too little and all the ink won't be
picked up out of the lines.
The tighter the press or the larger the plate, the harder it is to turn the
crank.
Reduction gears can make this easier if you have a large plate to print.
